Intellectual Property

Totally committed to client service

The most valuable asset a business may possess is its intellectual property. The name brand of your company or the name of a product you manufacture may be more valuable than your infrastructure, equipment, and inventory. Whether you are an individual, a start-up company or an established company, our firm can help you discover what intellectual property you own and how best to protect that property.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office

You should trademark your company logo and any product or service name brands in order to protect these potentially major assets. If you have not registered these assets as trademarks, our firm can file trademark or service mark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). If your business plans to use a mark, but has not yet started using it in commerce, we can file documents to reserve the mark. If an application for the registration of a mark has been denied, whether for substantive or technical procedural reasons, but there is still time to respond to that denial, our firm can respond as appropriate to such office action by the USPTO.

Copyrights

We can file copyrights to help protect items created by you, such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, music lyrics, sound recordings, books, poems, magazines, movies, and plays. Creating these items takes a significant amount of time, effort, and ability. Without a registered copyright, you may lack the ability to recover from an infringer of your work.

If you already own a registered trademark or copyright and would like to let another person or entity use it, we can help negotiate and draft the appropriate license agreements. Conversely, we can do the same if you or your business would like to use another company’s trademark or copyright.

Trade secrets

Sometimes intellectual property is best protected by keeping it secret, such as the formula for a drink or food. Our firm will consider many factors and help you determine if a trade secret would best protect your intellectual property.
